Peer Review

Peer Review

Throughout the semester, I tried to give in depth comments when reviewing peer work because I know that if someone commented on my work I would want it to be useful. That being said, I definitely improved the quality of my comments as the class wrote more papers. A good example of this is the difference between my comments on Alex’s first and second papers. In the first paper, I made a comment about her evidence saying, “try to expand on this quote a little more before moving on to your perspective section.” In the second paper, I made the same type of comment with more depth: “I like the usage of this quote as it relates to critical thinking. Try adding a little more text around the structure and goals of critical thinking that the handbook provides rather than just using the statement.” By making my comments more specific, my peers were able to make better edits. Something I think I can improve on is being able to make comments that fit with my peer’s writing style. As a writer myself, I tend to write essays as if they are a speech. This is a specific style and I want to be able to identify and make suggestions on different styles of writing.
