Task 1, ENG110
Coordination:
Jeffery Scheuer argues the importance of a liberal arts education and Sanford J. Ungar weighs in on the common misconceptions associated with attending it.
This core requirement causes students to pursue interests outside of their field, allowing them to then take that knowledge and apply it after they graduate.
CAS fits the first type the best because it is designed to include the essential liberal arts classes such as English, but also requires the student to take science and creative arts courses.
These are all examples of coordination because they each have 2 independent clauses that could be sentences on their own with equal weight connected by a coordinating conjunction.
Subordination:
This gives better opportunities for students in the future because the knowledge they carry with them is very valuable in higher employee positions.
Teaching citizenship in higher education is very important for our generation’s sociopolitical future no matter one’s career because, in our democratic society, every voter counts.
These are both examples of subordination because the clauses used are in hierarchal order. In the first sentence, the second clause depends on the first. In the second sentence, the first clause is dependant on the second. They are both connected by a subordinating conjunction.
